Introduction
Hello! I'm gonna do my friend's writing challenge! Hopefully it goes better than the November one I had to abandon (thanks covid). See here for a list of everyone else doing it.
Yay for writing in the New Year! If you are interested in joining, let me know and I can hook you the heck up. We have a group chat. We may develop a more arcane form of communication. Who knows!
Rules
Here are the rules I am adopting (specific to this challenge):
- Write every day. (note that writing does legally include staring at a blank document for half an hour, getting frustrated, and giving up. It's the attempt that counts)
- Publish pieces when finished. (note that this will not be daily because I like my longer pieces)
- Publish unfinished things when abandoning them. (if visual artists can post sketches and get away with it, so can i)
- At least once a week, write something on the themes Alice will be coming up with
- At least once a week, write something based on something someone else wrote
- In the event of illness, all obligations are suspended (yay health)
The challenge lasts for 100 days.
I'm, uh, already behind at being on topic. Whoops! I'll try for both this week's theme and last week's theme in the next couple days.
List of Posts

Other
I also have 5 other unrelated goals for the whole of 2024 that I want to get in writing (haha see what I did there):
- Write at least 200,000 words
- Write a complete novel of at least 50,000 words
- Found a zine for short writing
- Get at least one thing published professionally
- Read at least 2 novels a month
The first will be measured by the word count visible on this page. I finished the year almost exactly on 100,000, so I just need a nice and easy 300,000. This is double what I achieved last year, very achievable given that most of my writing was in the last 3 months.
Snippets of the second may be posted while it is in progress.
There will be lots more info to come on the third because like, I'll need submissions. I just think it would be cool to have a lil queer horror writing collection. Might not happen if I can't get enough people to contribute. Such is life.
The fourth one is a little outside of my control. I'll try for it, but it may not happen and I'm okay with that.
That last one is super important! You can't create without building on what came before. I'm gonna finally reactivate my library card and then try to do classic horror and sci fi novels.
Those are my specific goals. Now I am accountable. The horror.
